As California continues to take a stricter approach in regulating social media use among teens, several laws have been introduced to strengthen online protections for minors while requiring increased transparency from digital platforms.
Protecting Our Kids From Social Media Act (SB 976)
- Prohibits digital platforms from knowingly providing “addictive feeds” to minors without parental consent.
Social Media Warning Law (AB 56)
- Requires social media companies to warn minors of potential mental health risks associated with the usage of their app.
Digital Age Assurance Act
- Ensures that operating systems and app stores verify a user's age before allowing them to download an app.
